Insect frass is a vegan soil amendment that contains chitin which increases plants immune system and aids in root growth. Research suggests is that when a plant’s root system comes into contact with chitin, the plant thinks it’s being attacked by insects. It has a natural immune response to that stimulus, which is to increase root growth, bark and flower Trials suggest that insect frass supports superior plant growth to that of worm castings applied at similar rates. It is suggested that as an immune response frass encourages the plant to produce more flavonoids and terpenes to deter pests

Gardens & Raised Beds:

Add 5 lbs. per 100 square feet and mix into the top 3″ of soil. For transplants, add 2-4 tbsp. per hole, mix into soil and water. Established plants should be side dressed 2-4 tbsp., depending on plant size and desired growth rate, once each month during the growing season.

Containers:

For plantings, add 2-4 tbsp. per gallon of soil and mix or add 10 lbs. per cubic yard. For established plants, lightly mix 1-2 tbsp. per gallon into the soil surface monthly until the end of the growing season.
